Bushcamp to Bennett Road Camp
28.2 miles
Mile 625.2
It was another dreary morning as I left camp, continuing down the Timber Trail.
This trail has historical significance, it follows an old railway track used by early loggers working deep in the bush. Remnants of the railway and logging communities still litter the trail. It’s funny how once trash sits somewhere long enough it becomes history rather than rubbish.
Anyways, today was much the same as yesterday. The perfectly maintained trail made for easy tramping.
It drizzled on and off throughout much of the day, but never so much as to make me uncomfortable.
I passed over more bridges, under tunnels and by shelters as I wound my way through the forest.
I passed a 1000 kilometer marker someone before me had created. That means I’m already 1/3rd of the way done, and easily on track to finish in the 3 months I have, woot!
Towards the end of the day I found loads of blackberries lining the trail!
At the end of the trail I found Bennett Road Campground. Established by the Te Araroa Trust for hikers like myself, it was a great spot to spend the night.
With heaps of grass for tenting and a shelter with a sink and chairs, it was a comfortable evening.
Cheers!
Hi Austin! I’ve been catching up on your adventures, and must say I love the bridge pics! Do you ever get nervous or adrenaline rushes when you cross them?
Hey Dave! I like to jump up and down when I get to the middle just to see if I can break it.
