Wellington to Picton

Today was my first zero day since starting the trail! After a lazy morning, I made my way to the Blue Bridge ferry terminal to wait for my ride.
While waiting, I found a killer deal on a flight from Christchurch to Bangkok…so I bought it! Guess I’ll be touring South East Asia for a bit after this.
The ferry ride from Wellington to Picton took about three and a half hours, just enough for me to knock out a few episodes of Star Trek before arriving.
Upon debarking the ferry I found my friend Margaret waiting for me in the car lot. We’d met while on a cruise in Antarctica cruise, and it just so happened that we’d ended up in the same area of New Zealand’s South Island on the same day….super random.
We drove back to her hotel in Blenheim, where she offered up the extra bed in her room for me to crash in for the night. Such luck!
Walking into town we found a neat spot called Scotch to trade stories over a couple beers. For dinner we hit up a Mexican joint. Being that I’m from Arizona, I’ve been missing this sort of cuisine massively, so I was stoked to find their pulled pork nachos and chicken ensalada on point!
After an excellent rest day of travel and reunion, I’m ready to see what the South Island has to offer when I hit the trail tomorrow!
Cheers!
Woohoo, South Island! This trip has been beautiful, with such varied terrain. Thanks for letting us all follow along!
You’re welcome! I’m loving the South Island!
Didn’t swim the Cook Strait? Isn’t this supposed to be a hardcore adventure blog?
/joking good luck. Don’t let the keas get in your pack
Haha sorry for letting you down! It would have been tough keeping my gear dry.
