Bushcamp to Patagonia
32 miles
Mile 51.2
Awake by 6:00 AM, I enjoyed my breakfast brew (1 packet of chocolate breakfast essentials mixed with 2 packets of instant coffee mixed in 1/3rd liter of water) while looking over the map for the day ahead. I’d really missed this ritual while traveling abroad. In New Zealand I could find pretty much everything I’d normally resupply with, except breakfast essentials.
Shortly after starting I passed Parker Canyon Lake Trailhead, where I found some water stashed. Thanks trail angels!
Pushing on, I entered into the Canelo Hills, where I spent the rest of the day on a constantly undulating trail. There weren’t any big climbs, but the rolling hills wore me out quick!
There continued to be plenty of water as I made my way through the desert. It was also slightly overcast, so life was good.
I passed a few more hikers today, I’m glad to see it so busy!
This guy needed to get his base weight down…
The new trail was on point!
By 5:00 PM I reached Harshaw road, which led me the final three miles into the town of Patagonia. This sign made me laugh…after hiking the Te Araroa I’m a road walking extraordinaire!
I setup shop at the Patagonia RV Park. It was $26 for a tent site, which is a bit steep in my opinion. It was my best option though, so I bit the bullet…at least I wasn’t the only tent!
After setting up camp I walked into town to grab a few things from the general store and a carne asada burrito from MJ’s before heading back home for the night. Nom nom nom…
Cheers!
