PCT Day 114

Bushcamp to Bushcamp

34.1 miles

Mile 2249.1

We woke up at our typical time, packed up and hit the trail just in time for sunrise.

Spikes’ leg was still bugging her, so she decided to play it safe by getting it checked out in Trout Lake. After discussing our options we decided it would be best for me to keep going, and have Spikes rejoin me in two days at White Pass. This would keep us on schedule, and prevent us from having to rush through the remaining trail to finish by our deadline.

We parted ways at Forest Road 88, where Spikes was picked up by a local trail angel named Dennis. Pushing on alone, I entered into Mt Adams Wilderness where I began a long steady climb up Mt Adams.

Towards the top of the climb the trail winded through a section of burned forest, where the blackened trees contrasted neatly with the lush green undercarriage.

There were plenty of creeks running down from Mt Adams glaciers, but they were milky white, heavy with sediment, so not exactly delicious.

The vistas were incredible as I meandered along an exposed ridge.

Before beginning my descent I had to cross Adams Creek, which ended up proving quite difficult. The fast moving water was opaque from sediment, and without trekking poles I had no way to determine how deep each step would take me. I made it across, but it wasn’t easy and it gave me flashbacks of the Sierra.

My hike down was just as scenic as the trip up as I made my way to my campsite.

Just past 5 I’d reached my campground, nestled between two tributaries joining the Muddy Fork. The skeeters were intense, so once again I was forced to spend my evening hiding in my tent.

Cheers!
