Zero Day in Idyllwild
Mile 179.4
It felt weird sleeping in a bed again, as did the simplicity in using the restroom or grabbing a drink during the night. We all woke up around 7 only to lounge around for an hour before walking over to the grocery store to purchase breakfast building supplies.
KP had worked as a cook in the past, so took the responsibility of making breakfast upon himself. He did a killer job.
We enjoyed a hearty breakfast of eggs sunny side up, bacon, hash brown casserole and toast. Sooooo good. Afterwards Stretch and I cleaned up.
At 11 we had to switch to a cabin across the court yard. Apparently the one we were in was only available for one night. No problem.
All moved in to our new room, we headed into town to take care of our chores. We swing by the post office first. I had decided to go stoveless, so needed to ship my pot and stove home.
That accomplished, next stop was the grocery store. We needed to prepare a four day resupply to make it the 87 miles from Idyllwild to Big Bear Lake. I pretty much just got snacks…
On the way back to our cabin we swung by the local outfitters, Nomad Adventures.
I was looking for a specific brand of light weight sandals to use as camp shoes. They didn’t have em, so when we got back to our room I ordered a pair off Amazon. They should arrive in Big Bear Lake by April 2nd…fingered crossed!
Next I set about organizing and repackaging my food.
Should be solid for the next four days.
Resupply complete, we had finished our chores and could begin to enjoy the day. We cruised over to the Idyllwild Brewery for a couple rounds.
The place had a neat atmosphere and their beer was fantastic. Next, we walked across the parking lot to Idyllwild Pizza Co where we order two large supreme pizzas and 2 dozen wings to go.
Back in our cabin we feasted until it was painful. Comatose from the binge, we spent the rest of the evening hanging out and planning our assault on the trail for tomorrow.
P.s. Idyllwild is a super neat town. Everything is in walking distance and the people are friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here!
Cheers!
