PCT Day 15

Arrastre Trail Camp to Big Bear

10 miles

Mile 266.2

Woke up totally jammed about the easy morning ahead into Big Bear. I booked us a room at the Motel 6 the night before so we could just cruise in.

We’re planning on hanging out for three nights. I should have a pair of Xero Shoes sandals and Altra Lonepeak 3.0 waiting for me at the post office…fingers crossed.

We were on the trail by 730. It was a chilly morning, so I was booking it trying to warm up.

We took a short break to jam out to some tunes and slam some trail mix.

Only six miles to Highway 18, we were in good shape to make it into town early.

When we reached Highway 18 I threw out my thumb and a cheesy smile.

Within minutes I was cruising towards Big Bear with Mike and Mary, who were road tripping from Minnesota on their way to Newport Beach. They were great. Dropped me off right out front of the motel. KP and Shane arrived at the same time in a different hitch.

After checking in, showers and laundry we walked across the street to Broadway Cafe where I ordered a grilled chicken salad and a Lagunitas IPA.

The food was solid. Hunger satisfied for the moment, we walked back to our room to digest our food and relax for a bit.

With time to kill, I grabbed an Uber to the post office to pick up my new shoes and sandals. Three post offices later I arrived at the location that had my boxes. My failure to check which office accepted general delivery turned a $10 Uber into a $40 Uber…at least I learned the layout of the town!

Shout out to my Gram and Granddad, Sally and Ed, for being my shoe sponsors while on the trail! I can’t thank them enough for their support. Love you guys!

I went through a couple pairs of trail runners on the Arizona Trail that absolutely shredded my feet, until I tried the Altra Lonepeaks. There’s a reason these shoes are basically the thru hiker’s uniform…they’re solid.

Stoked to have shoes with tread again, I should be good for another 500 miles.

We spent the rest of the afternoon vegging out to crap tv with Dominos pizza and cheap beer.

Maybe we’ll be more productive tomorrow…maybe not. What I do know is that this is the best job I’ve ever had!

Cheers!
