By 4:30am I was making my way through the dark towards hot food at Shelter Cove.
I passed lake after lake after lake as I walked through the frigid morning.
My stomach was still bugging me, but other than that I felt well rested and strong.
Around 9 I passed a women named Teflon who stopped me to offer up some trail magic! She’d decided to hike this section with a pack stuffed with treats, just to handout to hungry hikers. I took a cheese stick, Starbucks Via and a Snickers off her hands before thanking her and pushing on.
Thanks to my early start and flat terrain, I was making great time. The restaurant at Shelter Cove closes at 7, but I’d be there far before then.
The last few hours were pretty rough. Whenever I eat my stomach turns to knots for a bit, so I was feeling drained from not consuming enough calories.
Just before 6 I rolled up to Shelter Cover. As I was plugging in my electronics to charge, a friendly hiker asked if I wanted her last slice of pizza…duh! Pizza in hand, I walked over to the Hook & Talon to order the feast I’d been dreaming of all day.
I put in my order of an applewood smoked turkey wrap with fries, popcorn chicken and a garden salad before heading to the office to pickup my resupply box and new shoes. The shoes were there, the resupply wasn’t…after tracking the package I learned that it would arrive the following day, which wouldn’t do me any good since I’d be long gone.
Luckily the Shelter Cove general store has a legit snack selection, so I was able to resupply there no problem. I’m just glad my shoes were there, I needed them desperately. Thanks Gram and Grandad for making that happen!
Following my resupply box drama I was glad to find my dinner awaiting me.
By the time I’d gotten about halfway through the meal my stomach was doing backflips. It was time for sleep, so I got my stuff together and headed over to the campground for the night.
Cheers!
Would have loved to seen a picture of your old shoes!
I totally meant to snap a pic…
