PCT Day 158

Bushcamp to Bushcamp

43.8 miles

Sobo mile 911.5

Total mileage 3564.1

When my alarm went off at 4am, I felt pretty good…which was good because I had a big day ahead of me. I topped my bottle off at the spring before setting off into the predawn night.

I spent the morning making my way through flat woodlands. My stomach wasn’t bugging me too bad, making the hiking much more enjoyable.

Around 8 I reached a creek that had been gushing a couple months earlier, but now it was drier than British humor. Luckily, someone had left a few gallons of water for us hikers, so I grabbed a liter before pushing on.

The next 5 miles of trail weaved through old lava fields of volcanic rock.

I saw this giant caterpillar chomping on some leaves.

By noon I’d arrived at South Brown Mountain Shelter. I picked at some trail mix before filling my bottle at the hand pump and pushing on.

From the shelter the trail remained flat and unremarkable for the remainder of the day, which I was thankful for.

At 7:30 I reached my campground for the night. Gassed from the long day, I threw up my tent and hopped in for quick dinner before crashing hard.

Cheers!

  1. Did I miss what happened to Airborne? Sounds like you’re solo right now. Did you not reconnect after he passed you when you were resting by the trail?
