PCT Day 16

Zero Day in Big Bear

Mile 266.2

Woke up to find pizza boxes, beer cans, gear and candy wrappers carelessly strewn throughout our small motel room. Bearings gained, I began moving the trash into a neat pile in an effort to make the place inhabitable once again.

We all agreed that breakfast was the priority, so we headed over to the Lumber Jack Cafe to grab some grub.

I ordered the veggie omelet with hash browns, wheat toast and a cup of joe. It hit the spot.

After breakfast we swung by the good ole motel 6 to book another night and shower before heading into town to run some errands.

We cruised down the board walk on our way into town.

We dropped by the local Big 5 Sporting Goods to see if we needed anything…we didn’t.

Next stop was the Big Bear Lake Brewery for a couple rounds. Their Sidewinder Red Ale and Whispering Pines IPA we’re both on point.

The following stop was Big Bear Sporting Goods. We’ve always got time to drool over gear. The boys picked up some stove fuel.

On our way to the grocery store we made a pit stop at Sonora Cantina for a pitcher of margaritas and some loaded nachos. Neither disappointed.

Finally we made our way over to Vons to purchase the five day resupply that would get us the 100 miles to Wrightwood. An hour later I was all set.

Back in the room I organized and condensed everything into ziplock baggies. Chores done.

Prepped for tomorrow, our next chore involved dinner. Lots of dinner.

We went to a sushi joint called Fiji Japan. Sushi and saki was consumed. I meant to take a before photo but…

On the way back to the motel we swung by a Seven Eleven for some snacks, and ending up leaving with a impressive collection of hot dogs and taquitos that the cashier gave us for free. In hindsight, we probably shouldn’t have ate all of them…but whatever.

Back at the motel The Prodigy joined us and brought along a sixer of PCT Porter by Crux Brewing. It was killer.

We spent the remainder of the night chatting about the trail, beer and the calendar year triple crown. I’m seriously considering giving it a shot…

Cheers!
