Waking up was rough. My stomach was in knots and I didn’t feel rested at all despite getting over 8 hours of sleep. Regardless, I dragged myself from my tent and started walking.
Things got worse before they got better. Over the next few hours I had some pretty gnarly code brown episodes.
By 10 I finally started feeling half decent. I was closing in on Seiad Valley, so I was hoping my stomach would feel well enough to enjoy some hot food there.
After spending an hour or so walking through a burn area, I spent the next few hours winding my way along mountain ridges before the descent into Seiad Valley.
I reached the diner just before 1. I ended up ordering two chicken avocado bacon wraps, one for lunch and one to pack out for dinner, and a strawberry milkshake.
As I munch down my meal I had a nice conversation with two south bounders. I’ve been seeing more and more sobos each day, so I’m thinking I must be catching up to their bubble.
After lunch, I cruised over to the RV park to grab the resupply box Paige had sent me. There was a note on the office saying they’d stepped out until 3, so I killed an hour doing phone chores in the diner.
At 3 I picked up my box. Once again I was blown away by the incredible job Paige had done selecting the contents of my resupply. After I organized my food, I began the 6 mile road walk that would take me back to the trail.
The road took me over and around the Klamath River.
Around 6 I reach Grider Campground, where the trail picks back up. I was tempted to get a few more miles in, but the luxury of camping near a pit toilet and a picnic table won out. I scarfed down the chicken avocado bacon wrap I’d packed out while watching Netflix before hitting the hay.
Cheers!
