PCT Day 170

Bushcamp to Bushcamp

34.2 miles

Sobo mile 1321.3

Total mileage 3973.9

I woke up at 5am to find it absolutely freezing outside. In full layers, I set out into Lassen Volcanic State Park to begin my day.

By 8am it was still brutally cold out. I’m not sure if a temporary cold front had just moved in or if it’s officially winter, but it was cold enough to freeze my water bottle as I hiked.

Around noon I reached Drakesbad Guest Ranch, and decided to swing by to see if they were open. Oh boy was I glad that I did. $12 bought me access to their terrific lunch buffet.

Thirty minutes later I was back on trail with a very happy belly.

From there I crushed another 15 miles or so until arriving at Cold Spring. By then it was past 6pm, so I filled my bottles before banging out a few more miles.

A bit past 7 I found a fairly flat piece of ground near the trail to call home for the night. My cold soaked rice side was too cold to be appetizing, so I ended up munching down a couple protein cookies for dinner before hitting the hay.

Cheers!
