I rolled out of my bunk at 5:30am to gather my things before heading downstairs for some grub. I felt prime from the solid night of sleep on a bed. When the restaurant opened at 6am I joined Spats, Sky Bird and Ichi for a quick breakfast.
After slamming my bacon and eggs, along with multiple cups of coffee, Spats, Sky Bird and I paid one of the Kennedy Meadows employees to drive us back up to Sonora Pass. By 7:30am I was making my way up the trail.
The switchbacks up Sonora Pass were easy thanks to the gentle grade. When I’d come down the pass on my way north the switchbacks had been completely hidden by a thick layer of snow, so I’d slid down the mountain on my butt…it was fun.
Once I reached the top of the climb I entered the Emigrant Wilderness, where trail followed a ridge line offering sweeping views of lakes below and mountains beyond.
As the day progressed I descended into a valley before climbing up and over Dorothy Pass where I crossed into Yosemite National Park.
From Dorothy Lake the trail meandered gentle downhill through the woods for ten miles or so until reaching Wilma Lake. I was shocked to find the creek there almost dry. This had been the deepest creek crossing on my way north, but now I was able to cross it without even getting my feet wet!
A few miles later I reached Sudderfield Creek, where I joined another hiker at camp.
The hikers name was Troubadour, a fitting name as he spent the evening singing while picking at his micro guitar. After a quick dinner I slipped into sleep.
Cheers!
