PCT Day 203

Big Bear to Bushcamp

34.8 miles

Sobo mile 2421.3

Total mileage 5073.9

I pulled myself from the motel bed at 6am, and an hour later I was exiting an Uber back at the PCT trailhead.

I spent the morning hiking over rolling mountains through evergreens before making my way up to Onyx Summit.

From there I passed a private zoo where sad animals are kept for use in films, before following a ridge line that offered awesome vistas of the desert and mountains beyond.

Around noon the trail began its long descent from the mountains down into Mission Creek Canyon.

Within an hour or so I’d left the pines behind, and found myself in the San Gorgonio Wilderness surrounded by cacti and sagebrush as I hiked along Mission Creek.

A bit past 6pm I found a great place to camp adjacent the creek. Once I’d pitched my tent, I pulled out the beef and cheese wrap I’d packed out from town and enjoyed it while soaking my sore feet in the cool water of the creek.

Cheers!
