PCT Day 33

Tehachapi Zero Day

0 miles

Mile 558.1

We started the day off by hitting the continental breakfast located in the lobby of our hotel. It was a decent spread, with the usual suspects such as eggs, sausage and waffles.

A plate eggs that were a bit too yellow and a few cups of joe later, Spikes, Mike, Swift and I were on our way down the street to pick up a 4 day resupply that would last us the 90 some miles to Lake Isabella

I was able to get most of what I needed at the Family Dollar, but had to swing by Albertsons to grab protein bars and cookies. This was my cheapest resupply yet by a long shot, so guess I’m learning.

On the way back to our hotel, Spikes and I made a pit stop at TK’s Pizza for a brewski to celebrate the completion of our only chore. The remainder of the day would be dedicated to eating and lounging about.

Back at the hotel I organized my food bag as Spikes observed supportively.

As per usual, I’ve got far more food than I really need, but I’m totally cool with that.

For lunch, Spikes, Mike and I went across the street to checkout the German styled bakery. They had an awesome selection of pastries, cakes and other tasty treats. Spikes and Mike ordered sandwiches that looked incredible, while I just got a beer, as I still had half of my salad from dinner the previous night back in our room I was planning on eating. Impressed with their German beer selection, I ended up ordering a Bitburger, which was brewed in the town I was born in.

After lunch we swung by a gas station to grab some ice cream on our way back to the room to relax. I spent the rest of the afternoon watching tv in bed while Swift enjoyed a frigid ice bath.

Around 5 we decided it was time to get dinner, so we headed down the street to TK’s Pizza. It was a neat spot with an incredible beer selection alongside hand tossed pizzas. After a few rounds and some apps, I put in our order of two large pizzas, a wild bbq chicken and a deluxe.

The pizza did not disappoint! Hunger satisfied for the moment, we walked back to the hotel where we spent the rest of the evening drinking beer while enjoying each others company.

Tehachapi was a great spot for a zero day. The food was delicious and the people were friendly, but I’m feeling a bit antsy to get back on the trail. Looking forward to what tomorrow will bring!

Cheers!
