Bushcamp to Bushcamp
28 miles
Mile 91.6
Enjoyed an epic nights sleep last night. Woke up feeling fantastically recharged! Crushed a blend of Starbucks Vis and chocolate protein before hitting the trail by 730. Otter left camp about half an hour before me, while the rest of the crew were still waking up.
Feeling great, I breezed through the first 13 miles. I found Otter chilling on a cooler at a trail magic cache near Scissors Crossing.
From here we meandered another quarter mile to a massive water cache beneath a bridge.
Sheltered from the hellish winds and glaring sun, we relaxed for a bit to grub, catch up on emails and plan the rest of the day.
The next water cache was about 15 miles into the desert via a windy length of uphill switchbacks. We marked that as our destination and we’re back at it by 1.
And lemme tell you what, those switchbacks felt like they’d never end! You’ve been WARNED! The wind was fierce. I nearly lost my hat on multiple occasions.
After what seemed like eternity, we reached the promised water cache.
I think Otter’s doing the water dance in that one…
After restocking our water supplies we setup camp, smashed a few thousand calories into our face holes and hit the hay.
Back in my tent, sleep came quickly accompanied by dreams of showers, clean clothes and town food. Cya tomorrow Warner Springs!
P.s. Upon careful consideration, I’ve decided to graciously forego the trail name bestowed on me yesterday and remain Austin for the moment. Stay posted!
Cheers!
