Lake Tekapo to Pines Campground
26.5 miles
Mile 1504.7
After a lazy morning of milling around the hostel, I hit the road just before 10:00 AM. I followed a dirt road out of town to join the Tekapo Canal.
I spent the next six hours walking along the canal. It was perfectly flat, and perfectly boring.
Towards the end of the canal walk I passed a salmon farm, which was really the only thing of note along the track.
When I reached Lake Pukaki, I joined a road that skirted it’s bank. The lake was a pretty thing to look at as I walked, it’s water was an incredible shade of blue.
Eventually I left the road for a bike path, which I followed for a few more miles before making camp.
This has got to be one of the most scenic locations I’ve ever camped…
Cheers!
