Gear.
It’s important.
I’m no expert, but if you’re going to carry something 2,650 miles you had better use it. Better yet, you had better LOVE it.
Regrettably, I haven’t always held this opinion. My first exposure to backpacking was in college. My buddies invited me to join them for a weekend backpacking trip…
“That’s the same as camping right?”
I had no clue.
After stuffing my borrowed pack with borrowed gear, I was delighted to find I still had room for a thirty pack and a bottle of scotch!
Whoops.
That weekend I learned first hand the wisdom of the phrase…
“Ounces equal pounds, and pounds equal PAIN!”
Lesson learned.
With this experience in mind, I spent months researching, buying, testing and returning gear (thanks REI), until I dialed in on my current getup.
Everyone has their own opinions about gear, so my best advice is to do your own research to come to your own conclusions.
That said, this is what I’m bringing on the Arizona Trail and Pacific Crest Trail.
Funny and relatable! Love it.
Thanks sis!
Love this. 2,600 miles is nothing to sneeze at!
Great info! Looking forward to keeping up with you on your trek.
Thanks Becky!
How often are you going to come across a place to plug in an charge?
Every 3 to 7 days I’ll hit a town to resupply/charge/shower. I’m also carrying a portable battery that’ll juice up my phone about four times.
I saw that but I was thinking if you’re blogging and doing video clips here and there you might need more juice
You’d be surprised how long a phone can hold its charge when kept in airplane mode. I just got back from a five day trip and still had 2/4 bars left on my external battery. I use about 30% of phone battery/day, and that’s with listing to music all day, checking the map periodically and journaling at night. I can always upgrade to a larger battery if needed, but I think I’ll be solid.
Love you and will watch adventure infold.
I’m reading every word. Let the fun begin.
