PCT Day 116

Bushcamp to White Pass

15 miles

Mile 2294.5

I woke up to an incredible sunrise, painting Mt. Rainer in deep orange and yellow with low hanging clouds carpeting the valley below.

My trek down Goat Rock was punctuated by incredible sunrise vistas over the cloud covered valley.

Once I made it below tree line a thick fog accompanied for the remainder of my descent.

Eventually the trail traded down for up, and I began my final climb before plummeting down to White Pass.

The top of the climb offered awesome vistas as I made my way along its ridge.

I spent my final hour descending quickly, with pictures of ice cream, chocolate and beer dancing in my head.

By 10 I’d reached Highway 12, and after a short road walk reached the gas station where I’d meet Spikes and pickup my resupply box.

Once I’d grabbed my box and some beers, I found a picnic table behind the store to get myself organize. Upon cracking open my box I was delighted to find it stuffed with all sorts of tasty treats my mom had added before shipping. I prepacked all of my resupplies before starting, so its always nice to find unexpected goodies inside.

After taking three days of food out, I gave the box back to the lady in the gas station to hold until I made my way back on my way south. Next, I spoiled myself with a shower and laundry, while waiting on Spikes to arrive.

Around 2 a truck pulled up and Spikes hopped out, all smiles and fresh from town. Originally we’d planned on hiking out ten miles or so, but the lure of gas station snacks and beer, other hikers to socialize with and free camping behind the store beat out our desire to hike.

We spent the rest of the day hanging out and relaxing, giving Spikes additional time to rest her leg.

In the evening a large group of south bound thru hikers joined us. They were a bit rowdy, but a good time was had by all.

Cheers!
