I woke up feeling prime from a good nights sleep. We were on our way just before sunrise, passing a couple tents on our way up our first climb.
The sunrise painted the sky above the mountains with vibrant streaks of color, making our morning extra scenic.
After climbing for a bit the trail took us down into Marble Valley.
We crossed loads of snowmelt streams feeding the lush greenery in the gorgeous valley.
The mountains surrounding us held large caps of smooth granite jutting from their summits.
The wildflowers and meadows were incredible, definitely one of the more scenic days on trail as of late.
I took a short break at the abandoned Marble Mountain Lodge before ascending up and out of the valley oasis.
From there I walked a ridge for a time, until beginning a descent into a jungly valley.
As I descended the humidity increased in intensity and the flora grew wildly dense, completely blocking the trail at times.
At last I reached our creekside campsite, where I found a massive dump some previous hiker had left me while pitching my tent. At least the flies seemed to be enjoying it…
Once Spikes arrived we enjoyed our dinner huddled around a small fire. I tried cold soaking mac and cheese for the first time, and I’m sad to report it was a failure.
After dinner I polished off the remaining chocolate in my food bag while watching some Netflix. By 8 we were both nodding off, so we decided it was bed time.
