PCT Day 151

Bushcamp to Bushcamp

34.7 miles

SoBo mile 632.7

Total mileage 3825.3

We were on trail by 5:30, and three hours later we were enjoying breakfast at Ollalie Lake.

While stocking up on snacks in the tiny store an older fellow asked me if I wanted a breakfast burrito….umm duh?!

After scarfing down a chocolate milk, cheese stick and an apple I headed over to where my new friend was cooking up burritos. It turned out that Munchen had hiked the PCT 44 years ago, and was at it again.

The burrito he served up was really just refried beans and dehydrated eggs, but hot dog it was delicious!

Having lost an hour eating and chatting at the lake, Airborne and I thanked the dude before pushing on.

A mile or so later I ran into Jenna and Rebel Yell, a couple I’d met my third day on trail. After catching up I wished them luck before continuing on my way.

From there the trail meandered a bit before beginning it’s ascent of Mt. Jefferson.

Halfway up the climb I enjoyed a lunch of chocolate milk and apple pie. Yum!

Almost all of the snow that had been on the north face had melted in the 6 weeks since I’d last been there. I was thankful for this, as it made the climb much easier.

From the top of the climb we enjoyed dope views of the surrounding area before heading down the south side.

My nearly destroyed shoes offered little protection from the rock covered trail, so progress was slow.

When we reached Russell Creek I was surprised to find the horse carcass still bobbing in the milky current. It was in pretty bad shape.

Safely across the creek, Airborne and I made our way through a burn area.

We took a short break at Milk Creek, before heading back up another mountain.

When we reached the top of our ascent we took a break at Shale Lake. I was shocked by how low the water was…it had been a massive lake last time I was there.

While chatting with a group of hikers a ranger walked up, asking us all for our permits. Once she’d inspected them all and given us a lecture on proper leave no trace principles, we were on our way.

We finally reached our campground just past 7. I was exhausted, and my feet throbbed. A quick dinner later I was asleep.

Cheers!
