Bushcamp to Sierra City

I’d set my alarm for 5am, but when I woke at 4am feeling incredible I decided to get moving. A couple hours later I caught an excellent sunrise as I passed along a ridge line.
I felt strong for the first time in weeks as I cruised up and down the rolling trail. I had 40 miles to go until I reached Sierra City, so I planned on being there in time for dinner.
It felt good to be back in the Sierra. The views will just keep getting better from here.
I made awesome time as I went, which felt great since I hadn’t made good time in weeks.
I passed a handful of incredible lakes as I made my way up the final climb of the day. From the top, I had 8 miles of descent to reach Sierra City.
By 6pm I’d reached the road leading into Sierra City. Just after starting the 1.5 mile walk into town a car stopped and picked me up. They were heading to Herrington’s Restaurant, which was were I wanted to go.
Once seated, I decided to treat myself to a ribeye and a Diet Coke. While waiting for my entree they brought out an awesome garden salad and a freshly baked loaf of bread.
Next came the main course…
For dessert, I ordered a slice of peach cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Bill paid, I headed to the church in town where hikers can pitch their tents. After pitching my tent, I hopped in to watch some Netflix before bed.
Cheers!
Years ago I took a trip into the high country of the Sierra Nevada’s. We drank a little water from a spring that popped up out of the ground near camp. It was a very stressful time in my life and for the next year I attributed pretty severe stomach issues to anxiety. I developed an unrelated infection which required antibiotics. Voila, stomach issues gone. I had no idea I had guardia. I hope you continue to feel better and the antibiotics are the answer.
Thanks Terrie!
Caught up with you. Just finished cruising Artic Circle from Norway to Quebec. I will tell you all about the Vikings and glaciers when next we meet.
Might even throw in fijord knowledge as well. Lv u G. 🤗
You’re much closer to Tahoe than I expected. I can’t wait to see more of your Sierra photos. Keep on trucking, and I’m glad you’re feeling better!
Thanks Scott! Passing by Tahoe this morning!
Great to hear you are feeling better Austin. The power of drugs. I notice your daily mileage is on the up too.
I may be going to the Sierras myself this weekend (last days of summer), camping and hiking in Yosemite, hopefully.
I hear it’s really organized now, shuttle buses to hiking trails – what a concept(sic)!!!!
Have fun on the trails – great photos as usual.
John
Thanks John! Enjoy Yosemite, some of the best trails in the world!
Cool little Rosy Boa you encountered there on the trail, those guys are super shy so that is a totally awesome encounter.
Good to hear about the giardia meds, you will feel so much better and be totally crushing it with a happy gut.
Also, I got to meet Spikes at our annual recruitment meeting for our local SAR team, so that was cool.
Is that what that was?!?! I’d never seen a snake Lake that before…pretty rad!
Paige mentioned she’d met you! She’s beyond pumped to be a part of your organization! I plan on joining once I finish the trail, so we’ll meet before long! Cheers!
