PCT Day 174

Bushcamp to Sierra City

39.4 miles

Sobo mile 1457.2

Total mileage 4109.8

I’d set my alarm for 5am, but when I woke at 4am feeling incredible I decided to get moving. A couple hours later I caught an excellent sunrise as I passed along a ridge line.

I felt strong for the first time in weeks as I cruised up and down the rolling trail. I had 40 miles to go until I reached Sierra City, so I planned on being there in time for dinner.

It felt good to be back in the Sierra. The views will just keep getting better from here.

I made awesome time as I went, which felt great since I hadn’t made good time in weeks.

I passed a handful of incredible lakes as I made my way up the final climb of the day. From the top, I had 8 miles of descent to reach Sierra City.

By 6pm I’d reached the road leading into Sierra City. Just after starting the 1.5 mile walk into town a car stopped and picked me up. They were heading to Herrington’s Restaurant, which was were I wanted to go.

Once seated, I decided to treat myself to a ribeye and a Diet Coke. While waiting for my entree they brought out an awesome garden salad and a freshly baked loaf of bread.

Next came the main course…

For dessert, I ordered a slice of peach cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Bill paid, I headed to the church in town where hikers can pitch their tents. After pitching my tent, I hopped in to watch some Netflix before bed.

Cheers!
