I woke up just past 4, stoked for the breakfast awaiting us in Seiad Valley, a mere 14 miles away. By 5 we were on our way with plates of greasy town food dancing in our heads.
We made quick work of the flat trail into town, crossing a creek multiple times before finding ourselves on a dirt road.
We followed the dirt road for a few miles, before dirt turned to asphalt.
At one point we could practically see the cafe we were headed to, but the massive Klamath River stood in our way, so we followed the road for a few more miles over a bridge and back into town.
When we arrived at the Seiad Valley Cafe, we were joined for breakfast by Duke and Picasso, who we’d met previously. I ordered two breakfast burritos, one of which I planned to pack out for dinner.
After eating I bought some supplies at the store next door before chilling with Spikes at a picnic table out front.
By noon we were back on trail, ensuring a short road walk before beginning a 4000 ft ascent.
The climb was pretty gnarly, made extra fun by the glaring sun and lack of shade.
We stopped by Lookout Spring to grab some water and cool off in the shade before making the final push to camp.
The area we’d picked to camp for the night was a perfect green meadow perched high along the mountains crest. I couldn’t find any running water, so filled our bottles in a clear pool inhabited by weird looking salamanders.
We decided to cowboy camp rather than bother pitching our tents thanks to the surprising lack of mosquitos. The burrito I’d packed out was delicious. After eating we hung out for a bit before heading to bed.
Cheers!
Sweet dreams. Think you will be in another state soon🛏🚿⛰⛺️🌎
Do you need a visa? Lv u G
We made it to Oregon!
Sounds like you’re almost done with California. At your current rate, will you be able to reach the northern terminus before your other commitments?
Hi Scott, we’re right on track to finish around August 1st! Just gotta keep moving. Cheers!
Good to hear. Keep on kicking butt!
Thanks!
You only need to average 27-mile days from here on out. You can do it!
Heck yeah!
