AZT Day 29 – Rim to Rim to Rim to Rim

Bushcamp to North Rim Campground

30.3 miles

Mile 712.3

I was able to sleep in until 7:00 AM, since I planned to take the shuttle into the park rather than hike the 6 miles in. I’ve already put in that work…At 8:30 AM I arrived at the visitor center, and made my way over to the South Kaibab Trailhead. Here we go again guys!

The trail wasn’t too busy, so with less people to dodge the hike down the South Rim went by quick.

When I reached the bottom I made a quick pit stop at Phantom Ranch before heading off into the canyon.

My next stop was at Manzanita rest area, where I ran into a dude I’d met last year on the PCT named Darwin, and another hiker named Break Point. We chatted for a bit before heading up the North Rim together.

The climb up was rough, but conversation made the time pass quicker.

When Darwin and I reached the top of the North Rim, we waited for Break Point to catch up before heading to the admin building to hangout for the evening.

Just before sunset I headed towards the campground and pitched my tent in the same spot from two nights ago.

Cheers!

  1. HAHA that’s pretty rad that you ran into Darwin. He was near you on the PCT last year. I was following you both. Seeing his recent updates on the AZT made me wonder if you would link up. It’s pretty awesome that you connected in the grand canyon.

  2. I think Darwin was hired to do a documentary on the AZT – paid to hike.

That’d be a great job for yourself.
